Son of Benjamin Hartman fell Into Bucket of Hot Water.
DIED EARLY THIS MORNING
Carl Entered the Back Door as the Neighbor Went to the Front Door. Dr. Costelle Called into Attend the Scalded Child.
A sad death occurred this morning in the home of Benjamin L. Hartman, 603 Genessee Street.
Yesterday noon his boy, Carl aged 3 years and 8 months, wandered in the back door of a neighbor's home, where the little fellow had been accustomed to play. The neighbor was preparing to wash her kitchen floor, and had just dipped a bucket of scalding hot water from the gasoline stove. Suddenly the door bell rang, and the neighbor set the bucket of hot water on the floor and went to the door.
Hearing loud screaming and cries she rushed back in to the kitchen and found Carl sitting in the bucket of scalding hot water unable to get out. It appears that the boy came into kitchen door just as the neighbor went to the front door. It is supposed that Carl accidentally backed against the bucket and fell into it.
The child was picked up and Dr. Costelle summoned, who did everything in his power to allay the child's suffering. The burns were confined to the back and lower parts of the body.
At 7 o'clock this morning the little suffer died more from the effects of the fright than of the burns so his parents think.
The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Mr. Hartman's residence.
