Staci Lyn Martin
CONWAY Staci Lyn Martin, age 19, of Bethel Drive, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 after a 17 year battle with a brain tumor.
Staci was born June 27, 1985, in Myrtle Beach, a daughter of Tony and Patti Martin. She attended Bethany Bible Chapel and was a student at Conway High School. Staci's awards include being the 1993 South Carolina Speech and Hearing Poster Child in addition to being featured in several newspaper articles and local TV broadcasts. Her life was an inspiration and a miracle, lasting almost 11 years longer than the best doctors in the world expected. During those years, her positive attitude and sunny personality spoke to many people. The loss of her ability to walk and see didn't discourage her. In the early morning on Jan. 3, Staci regained her sight and is now walking and talking with Jesus. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Lucy Lewis of Conway and paternal grandparents, Doris and Archie Levon Martin of Myrtle Beach.
Surviving in addition to her parents of Conway is her loving and protective brother, Patrick Martin of Myrtle Beach; and maternal grandfather, Blake Lewis of Conway. Staci also leaves behind Janis Oston of Conway, a very special caregiver and loving friend, in essence her ``second mother'' of more than 10 years.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday from Bethany Bible Chapel with the Rev. David Rickert and the Rev. Larry Deeds officiating. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery , directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.
