Galva - Martha K. Thomson, 87, of Galva, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at her home with her husband, her children, and their spouses by her side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22nd, at the Galva Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. Chaplain Rick Hillenbrand will officiate. The burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Humane Society in Kewanee or the Alzheimer's Association.
Martha Karin Bergland was born December 15, 1933, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Marjorie Peterson Bergland. She was educated in Galva schools and graduated from Galva High School in 1951, where she and Will were the Homecoming Queen and King. Martha attended Illinois State University in Normal for two years. Her marriage to Willard Thomson took place on June 13, 1954, in Galva.
She was a homemaker and also served as an executive for the family business, Dixline Corp, in Galva for many years. In her early years, she was a member of the PTA, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, and a room mother in the Galva Elementary School. She was a member of the University of Illinois Presidents Council, a former member of Midland Country Club, and held memberships in the University Park Country Club in Florida and the Portage Point Summer Association in Michigan. She loved Welsh Corgis, travel, Swedish history, and her family
Those surviving are her husband, Will, her beloved Corgi, Bella, two daughters, Karin (Wayne) McIntire, Galva, Rebecca (Matthew) Marchand, Galva, two sons, Kevin (Shirley) Thomson, Kewanee, and David E. Thomson (Thomas Paleka), Glen Ellyn. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Thomas (Kimberlee) McIntire, and Ross (Olivia) McIntire, all of Galesburg, Chloe (Kevin) Konstant, Chicago, Molly (Edward) Comarzan, Rockwell, NC, Jayson (Jessie) Thomson, Aledo, Margaret Thomson, Nashville, TN, Katie Thomson, Orion, Julia Thomson, Orion, Presson Thomson, Kewanee, and three great-grandchildren, Grayson and Natalie Thomson, and Willard McIntire. Her parents preceded her in death.
