Obituary for Carl Edward Cox
Carl Edward Cox was born January 24, 1929 near Unionville, Iowa. He was the son of Frank Augustus and Ida Frances Stevens Cox. He was the youngest of eight children. He grew up learning the logging business with his dad and his 2 brothers Burdette and Bill. He said he went to many different elementary schools through out his eighth grade year because his dad had a portable sawmill and they would move to where the timber was. This is where he developed his sense of humor. He said that when you move to a new school you either had to be tough or funny. He chose funny. He was spoiled by his many older sisters, Marie, Millie, Alice, Mary , and Lucille. Even as an adult he always had them laughing with his quick humor.
In the early 1950's he went to serve his country in the Korean War where he said he was a ground pounder that carried a 57 recoilless rifle. He was proud of his service and was a long time member of the American Legion Post in Albia.
He had several jobs as an adult including working at Sears and Roebuck in Washington D.C. and working a railroad job. Afterwards he owned and operated his own logging business for many years after leaning the trade from his Dad.
In 1969 he met married the love of his life Katie Moss and he loved her 4 children as much as he loved her. Charles Franklin Moss, Norma Jean Moss, Karen Louise Moss and June Elizabeth Moss became his kids with this union. They had 2 more children, Carla Renee and Frank Edward. They enjoyed 49 years of love, music, dancing, jam sessions, and loving their many kids, grand kids, great grandkids and great, great, grandkids. Family was always the most important thing in his life and it shows in how all of his children and grandchildren would try to get together for every holiday and many Sunday dinners.
He is going to be missed by so many people. He leaves a legacy of lasting love and humor that will never end. He was always able to make anyone feel at home and make them laugh with his jokes and funny stories.
His family that has been waiting in heaven to receive him are his parents, his wife Katie, his brothers Burdett Cox and Bill Cox, his sisters Marie Angel, Millie Brock, Alice Kaster and Mary Foster, his son Charlie Moss, his daughter Norma Jean Langstraat, and his Granddaughter Misty Shea Burns.
Those in his family left to share that legacy of love are his sister Lucille Robinson, his daughters Karen (Steve) Golston, June (Randy) Fort, Carla (David) Bauer, his son Frank (Mandi) Cox, his son-in-law Dennis Langstraat, his grandchildren, Eddie Burns, Stephanie Langstraat, Tami Langstraat, Kenneth Wilson, Natalie (Chad) Humphrey, Tonya (John) Small, Benji (Chris) Dommer, Cory (Kelsie) Dommer, Nathan (Kayla) Golston, Billy (Marcy) Golston, Ali Campbell, Sarah (Doug) McGrail, Rachel Fort, Matthew Fort, Erika Bauer, Kyl Bauer, Tristan Bauer, and Noa Bauer, 39 great grandchildren, and 11 great, great grandchildren as well as a special sister-in-law Shirley Crawford and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Carl's family will be present to greet friends and relatives at 11:00 A.M. until the beginning of service. Following services, military honors will be held, followed by a luncheon at the Church. Burial will take place on a later date at Lincoln Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 136 in Albia Iowa in which he was a member for over 65 years.
