He served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate Missile Tech (GMM) from 1977 until honorably discharged in 1985.

His hobbies included making art, reading, hanging out with his cats and feeding local wildlife. In his youth, he was an avid bowler.

He is survived by his brother, Ross L Brown, his ex-wife, Shiela Carter, his grand-daughters Lilian and Moxie Carter, and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Christopher Ross Carter, and his grandson Kaden.
