She was born in Cambridge, Ohio, the youngest child of James and Margaret "Maggie" Blancett on October 16, 1932.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband John Hughes, whom she married on May 10, 1980. Others that will greet her at heaven's gate include her brothers, Fred, Albert, Robert and Ernest and sisters Edith, Bessie and Florence.
Loved ones that will miss Norma Jean until they meet again include her children, Linda (Bud) McWhorter, Rev. Nancy (Junior) Parsons, Dyanne (John) Hudson, and Stephen (James) Blancett, ten grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and her lifelong friend, Herma Schilling.
Norma Jean was a woman of faith and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge, where she taught Sunday School for several years and was a former member of the Naomi Ruth Sunday School Class.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday (July 20, 2021) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday (July 21, 2021) from 11 a.m. to noon at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at noon with Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
