BLUEFIELD- William Perry Davis, 68, of 232 Arbor Ridge Drive, (White Oak Estates) Bluefield, died on Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Westwood Care Center in Bluefield, Va.
Born on Sept. 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Paul L. Davis Sr. and Virginia Perry Davis of Bramwell.
Mr. Davis was a former resident of Bramwell and Bluefield and had resided in the Green Valley area for over 10 years. He was a graduate of Bramwell High School and Bluefield State College as well as National Business College in Roanoke, Va. He pursued several different occupations during his lifetime including teacher in the Mercer County School system, owner of the Maranatha Christian Bookstore in Princeton, manager of Paging Inc., and he was a former member of the Board and accountant for the Bluefield Union Mission, a position he held at the time of his death. He was widely known for his woodworking projects and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Davis was a member of the First Christian Church of Bluefield where he had served as both a Deacon and an Elder; he previously taught Sunday school as well as worked with the youth and sang in the choir. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army for four years including a tour of duty in Germany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul L. Davis Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Sue Chappell Davis; a daughter, Susan Davis Lambert and husband, Kevin S. Lambert of Bluewell; two granddaughters, Leslie Anne Lambert and Leah Brooke Lambert of Bluewell; two nieces, Paula D. Hilling of Princeton, and Virginia D. Hall of Iron Station, N.C.; two aunts, Charlotte Bivens Barham and Anne Oakes Chappell, both of Bluefield; and numerous cousins.
The body has been cremated; a private internment will be held at Monte Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Mercer Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. C. Michael Cunningham officiating.
