William Underwood was born in Corpus Christi, TX where his father Joseph Underwood was stationed in the Army. They moved to Bakersfield, CA when William was a year old. William grew up in Church attending Calvary Gospel Tabernacle under Pastors Dexter & Glendolyn McMahon and later Full Gospel Lighthouse under the same pastors. William was known to his family and friends as Bill or Billy. Bill met his wife Sharon very early when Sharon's mother brought her over to Bill's parents' house not long after she was born, they grew up attending Church together. In 1974 William & Sharon were married. They had their son Stephen in December 1975, and their daughter Tammy in December 1977. Bill always called Sharon "The Love of my life."

William attended Foothill High School where he participated in Men of Troy Men's Choir and the Madrigals Choir under Dr. Robert Petker, Bill Graduated in 1972. In 1974 Bill also began to sing with his brother Mark and brother in-law Steve Johnson as a trio that would become The Lighthouse Boys, he continued involvement with The Lighthouse Boys until his passing. William & Sharon also pastored 2 Churches together, Full Gospel Lighthouse 1986-1988 and Calvary Gospel Tabernacle 2005-2021 (Both in Bakersfield, CA.) Today his wife Sharon continues the ministry as pastor of Calvary Gospel Tabernacle. Bill loved his family, his friends and Church Family. He was always on his phone talking and he never met a person he didn't like. He loved God and He loved people and if you met Bill you were instantly a friend of his. His most requested songs to sing were "Midnight Cry", "Leaving on My Mind" and "From Heaven's Point of View." Bill would drive miles and miles if someone needed prayer, he never shied away to tell someone about Jesus or to pray with and help someone who was struggling in life. Many times, Bill and Sharon provided shelter for people who expressed a desire to get help from addictions and wanted to get back on their feet.
Bill's message was simple, "Be Ready," we are living in the last days and we can either go by death or Jesus could come at any moment, but no matter what, make sure you made things right with God.
