William Glenn Cummings, 94, died July 15, 2021 at Vista Woods Care Center. He was born May 21, 1927 in Fairfield, the son of Charles and Alice Glenn Cummings. He married Doris Ilene Lee on June 24, 1951 and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2018.

Bill attended a rural country school in Jefferson County, IA and graduated in 1945 from Fairfield High School. Bill was a veteran of World War II. After his service he attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1951 and then taught Vocational Agriculture in Albert City and Centerville. After teaching 7 years, he was employed by Iowa Southern Utilities for 34 years. Bill was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Trustee and Deacon and a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was Past President of Centerville Rotary Club, Past Chairman of Appanoose Conservation Foundation, Past Chairman of the Iowa Food & Energy Council, Past President of Rathbun Lake Bird Club, served on the local boards of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Centerville Community Concert Association and was active in the Audubon Society.

Surviving is his brother, Robert C. Cummings of O'Fallon, IL; sisters-in-law, Merna Miller and Laurene Sprott; nieces and nephews, Robert A. Cummings, Michael L. Cummings, Jacqueline R. Connor, Cheryl Clark, Dianne Williams, Merlin Miller, Mark Miller, DeRene Bromell and Jolaine Comfort; and three cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters-in-law, Erma Cummings and Lavone Edwards; and a nephew, David Edwards.

His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26th, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Hornback and Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Family will be present to greet friends from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. For those unable to attend you may watch live on the First Presbyterian Church of Ottumwa Facebook page. Private inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Audubon Society. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
