Laurie Catherine Brewer, Ph.D., 69, passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at home in peace and comfort surrounded by loved ones after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in January 2019. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas L. and Ruth E. Brewer and her nephew, Samuel Biedermann.

Laurie is survived by her partner of 33 years, Patricia Albanese; siblings, Thomas E. Brewer (Constance), Brian Brewer (Rick Fetch), Lynn Brewer, Pamela Biedermann (John) and Paul Brewer (Barbara), as well as Pat's siblings, Rocco (Teresa) Albanese and Gary Albanese. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and dear friends, far and wide.

Laurie was an alumna of the University of Rochester, earning a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology and Psycholinguistics. She enjoyed a long and successful career teaching and providing academic leadership at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology, retiring in 2011 as vice dean and professor emeritus. Laurie was an active member of the Blooming Lilac Sangha and an ordained member of The Order of Interbeing, established by the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh.

Laurie felt blessed by her family and many friends who supported her. Please take her commitment to caring for each other and share it with those you meet. She is smiling and glad to have been part of your life.
