He was born December 31, 1928, in Utica, the son of the late Daniel and Edith Roberts Hayes, and graduated from Whitesboro High School. Mr. Hayes served in the National Guard from 1949-1951. Donald married Dolores Miller on April 14, 1951, at St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. Dolores died November 15, 1990.
Don was employed with various trucking companies over the years and retired from the Whitesboro Central School District as a bus driver. He was a member of St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro, and the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club and the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Automobile Museum.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, two sons and three daughters-in-law and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Richard Hayes in 2021.

Funeral services will be Friday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Church, 16 Park Ave., Whitesboro, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
