A celebration of Life and Remembrance for Peggy Haynes, 82, of Athens, will be scheduled for a later date. She will be laid to rest during a private ceremony in the Athens. Cemetery under the direction of Hanningan Smith Funeral Home.
Peggy Lou (Sanders) Haynes, 82 , of Athens,Texas was called home to our Lord and Savior on December 13, 2020, in Athens, Texas after complications from Covice-19.
Peggy was born to the late Alvin and Sarah Sanders at their home in Murchison, Texas on May 15, 1938. She was raised in Athens and graduated from Athens High 'School in 1956. Peggy married the love of her life, John 'W. Haynes of Athens on May 15, 1956. She and "Johnny" moved to Houston where she followed her dream and became a state licensed Cosmetologist, eventually owning a beauty salon for 35 years before retiring to Malakoff., Texas In he spare time, she loved sewing, crafts an shopping, always looking for the perfect deal.
Peggy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Malakoff where she had an active role in the Grieving Committee until becoming ill. Peggy was a warm-hearted and compassionate person. She was witty, loved to laugh, listen to music, and you never knew when she might get up and start dancing. Any time Peggy would need to go to town, whether it be shopping or running errands, she soul never be seen without her Hair, make-up and nails done 'oh so pretty and perfect' which explains why her beauty shop was called "Peggy's Perfect Touch."
After Peggy became ill, she depended on her niece and namesake Peggy Culpepper (also known as Peggy @ 2) to be her caregiver, her ears, eyes, touch and decision maker. Anyone who saw them together would oftentimes say, "there's Peggy # 1 and Peggy # 2.
She is preceded in death by hr parents,husband, John W. Haynes SR. and sister, Dee Sanders (Hendrix)
Survivors include her son, John Haynes, Jr., and his wife Anne of Houston; siblings, Thelma Jo Brown of Athens, James Sanders of Athens and sister, Faye McCool of Athens, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses and caregivers that helped take care of Peggy. Keeping her healthy an happy could not have been made possible without the help of everyone at Cedar Lake Home Heath, Lakeland House Assists Living, Genesis Extra Care, Genesis Hospice, Pathfinder Home Health, Athens Health Care and Caring Hearts Hospice.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2020 from 6-8 p. m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
