"Chuck" loved dogs, cats, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the James River. He was predeceased in 1999 by his beloved wife of 27 years, Ann Frances Gromelski of Scranton, Pa. Also predeceasing Marshall were his mother, Mary M. "Jimmie" Purvis and his father, Eugene W. "Duke" Johnson, and a brother, Eugene Willard Johnson (infant died in 1943).
Forever remembered are favorite dogs "Major" (English Setter) and "Rambo" (genius).
Survivors are Dr. Stephen S. Amato of Buckingham County; Joseph and Nicole Smith Amato of Lake Monticello; Peter E. Johnson of Palmyra; and Paul M. Johnson and Rhonda McAllister Johnson of Crozet. Grandchildren are Noah, Ava, and Anna Amato of Lake Monticello. He will be greatly missed.
