Thomas was born January 24, 1924, in Kent, Iowa the son of Wayne Adley and Grace Loretta (Forquer) Cook. He married Maryalpha M. Lamb on April 4, 1959, in Fort Madison, Iowa. After 55 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on May 21, 2014.
Thomas is survived by his four children, Edwin E. Evans of Kansas, Bruce G. Cook of Reno, Nevada, Michele M. Cook of Hamilton, Illinois and Elizabeth J. Willers of Oquawka, Illinois; his stepdaughter, Carol M. Powers of Kansas; his brother, Ronald Cook of Creston, Iowa; his sister, Betty Lou Shea of Creston; fifteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Michael W. Cook, a stepdaughter, Judy Lewis, one grandson, one brother, and one sister.
Thomas was known as a hard worker, working odd jobs as a youth to get himself through school. He graduated from Creston High school before entering the US Army. Thomas served his country from 1943-1945 as a Pfc. He was stationed in central Europe during WWII, receiving two Bronze Stars. Thomas was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Thomas worked as a grocery clerk for Hy-Vee Grocery Store for over 30 years retiring in 1986. He was a faithful servant attending Harmony Baptist church for many years. After his retirement, Thomas and his wife enjoyed traveling and together visited 40 states.
Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the Harmony Baptist Church. Military Honors will be conducted at 10:00 am at the church with funeral services following with Pastor Chris Nissley officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery Fort Madison, Iowa.
