James Milton Thompson was born on March 5, 1844 in a farm house near Lone Oak in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the son of William R "W R" Thompson (1814-1897) and Martha Ann (Hurt) Thompson (ca 1820- ).

A member of Salem Methodist Church and farming near Lone Oak where he was born, he was 77 years old and single when he died of "La Grippe" at home on November 25, 1921.

Survivors included his sisters Mrs Mary E Bagwell of Mayfield, Kentucky and Miss Lucy E Thompson, who lived with him.

Burial was on November 26th in the family burial ground.
