Ronald Arthur Olson
August 10, 1939 - July 12, 2021

Ronald Arthur Olson, of Crescent IA, passed away after a short illness on July 12, 2021. Ron was born on August 10, 1939 in Council Bluffs IA to Ralph and Zeatta (Schneckloth) Olson. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln in 1957.

Ron and Sandy lived in Crescent for more than 35 years. Ron was very active in the community and served on the volunteer fire department for more than 20 years, including tireless work with the pancake feeds. In addition, Ron served on the City Council and the Planning Committee. Ron was Mayor of Crescent and was instrumental in the development of the Veteran's Memorial in Crescent. Ron enjoyed managing the community sign in Crescent and did that faithfully for many years.
Ron served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa as a radio specialist. Following that, his career was with the Bell System both in craft and management of fiber optic installations.

Ron enjoyed retirement and spent much of it bowling and golfing. His proudest achievement was bowling his only perfect 300 game at 75 years of age. He loved puttering in his shop. For many, many years, Ron and Sandy had cats that have ruled the roost and Sammy & Ron were napping buddies most recently.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph Olson and Zeatta Olson; grandson, William Olson.

Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Sandra Olson; son, David Olson of Randolph VT; daughter, Carrie Thompson of Peoria IL; step-sons, Mark (Kathy) Wangberg, Gary Wangberg and Craig (Tsegi) Wangberg; siblings, Robert Olson of Seal Beach CA. and Vicki (Richard) Pearson of Tarkio MO.; grandsons, Cole and Walker Thompson, Bradley, Brent and Brian Wangberg, Nick Knotek-Wangberg; many family members and friends.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 2:00 p.m. at Crescent Fire Department, 102 W. Florence St. Crescent, IA.

Memorials may be directed to the Crescent Volunteer Fire Department.

Private Inurnment will be held at Omaha National Cemetery.
