Mindy Morgenstern, 22, New Salem, died Sept. 13, 2006, at her home in Valley City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the New Salem High School Gymnasium. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, New Salem. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the gymnasium on Tuesday.
Mindy, the adopted daughter of Larry and Eunice (Bauer) Morgenstern, was born April 29, 1984, in Bogota, Columbia. Raised and educated in the New Salem area, she graduated from New Salem High School before attending Valley City State University, where she was in her final semester, majoring in physical education. Her dream was to coach basketball or enter the field of sports training.
Special in so many ways, Mindy was above all, a person of strong faith in the Lord. She was an active member of her church and lived her faith daily. She always placed the needs of others before her own and relished being able to help wherever and whenever needed. It has been said of Mindy that she didn't teach people to love, but showed them how. Her life had a positive and affirming impact on the lives of so many, not only on her family, but on her acquaintances, friends, teachers and coaches as well.
An energetic, active and very hard-working young woman, Mindy participated in both track and basketball in high school and wished to do so in college as well, but a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis when she was a freshman prevented her participation. She did not let this stop her from remaining physically active. She served as an assistant basketball coach at the high school in Valley City and also worked as a lifeguard at the university and for the city as well. In addition, she remained physically fit. A farm girl at heart, she enjoyed helping with chores such as baling, loading hay and milking, also developing a great love and respect for horses as a young adult. Mindy appreciated all music, sang in the choir and played the piano as well as the clarinet. Children held a very special place in Mindy's heart and she thoroughly enjoyed any time she could spend with them, particularly her niece and nephews.
