Mabel Ann Morse is the daughter of Justus Morse and Elizabeth Towne. She married Collins Rowe Hakes and together had twelve children. Collins Hakes, Riley Morse and Orlando and Orin Merrill were the first to discover gold in the Goldfield area of the Superstition Mountains east of Mesa. He and his wife Mabel, built one of the first hotels in Mesa on the corner of Macdonald and Main streets. Mabel was active in the Women's Suffrage movement.
