More War Dead Are Coming Home
The remains of Cpl. Harold P. Pruitt, Air Force, Decatur, and Flight Officer William D. Bates, Cullman, are being shipped home from Europe. They will be aboard the U.S. Army Transport "Lawrence Victory" which is bringing the remains of 5,374 Americans, including 69 from Alabama. Next of kin of the two being returned to this area are Minnie B. Pruitt, Sixth Avenue, and Mrs. Dessie I. Bates, Cullman.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday for Flight Officer William D. Bates who was shot down over the English Channel, February 6, 1945.

Funeral services were held at the McConnell-Service Chapel, Rev. Hardiman officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Dezzie Bates, Cullman; one brother, Douglas Bates, Huntsville; two sisters, Mrs. Claude Wood, Cullman, and Miss Gladys Bates, Washington, D.C.
