Gilbert Lawrence Coltrane, 82, of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joshua Dawalt, Rev. Hannah Wilson and Dr. Brent Tysinger officiating. Burial will follow at West Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Randolph Co., Mr. Coltrane was born April 29, 1939, the son of the late John Allen and Lula Mae Poole Coltrane. Mr. Coltrane was a graduate of Asheboro High School, class of 1958. He was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church where he served on the church board for over 50 years. He also served as church treasurer, Sunday school superintendent and custodian. He loved serving God with his whole heart.

He retired from GE / Black & Decker after 35 years of service and served on the official board of Westside Fire Dept.

Gilbert played softball for many years, was an avid Tarheel baseball fan and loved to fish. He enjoyed his evening golf cart rides with his bride and his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Coltane was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Lee Cox and Kathleen Bowman, and brother Richard Coltrane.

Mr. Coltrane is survived by his wife, Mary Jordan Coltrane of the home; daughters, Marlene Dawalt (Mark), Teena Vanvick (Mark); son, Crandel Coltrane (Jessica); sister, Sue Hussey; brothers, Thurman Coltrane, Johnny Coltrane (Patricia); grandchildren, Hannah Wilson (Dustin), Mary Kathryn Coltrane, Joshua Dawalt (Keisha), Luke Vanvick, Ben Vanvick, Cole Vanvick, Carson Coltrane; great grandchildren, Paylina Wilson, Liliana Wilson, Addison Dawalt, Emmaline Wilson, Jordyn Dawalt, Coulter Wilson, Brentley Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service.
