On July 11, 2021, Betty was reunited with her parents and all of her siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4319 McNiel Ave, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308 with Pastor Al Easterling officiating.
Betty was born January 27, 1933 in Austin, Texas to Arthur Lee and Hattie Lea (Billings) Cooper. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas in 1954, where she obtained her Registered Nursing Degree.
She met Charles Harvey, the love of her life, and they got married on February 23, 1954.
Betty was one of fourteen children and was the last surviving sibling.
Betty devoted her life to her family, nursing and volunteering her services. Her volunteering was spread all over including the Head Start Program, Meals on Wheels, Nursing Homes, Vacation Bible School and multiple committees at the St. Marks United Methodist Church. She loved spreading her knowledge and love wherever she could.
Betty volunteered as a Registered Nurse for many years with the American Red Cross Disaster Services. She was dispatched as a RN to numerous disasters including the Virgin Islands Hurricane in 1995, the Oklahoma Bombing in 1995, the 911 Twin Tower Attack in 2001, the NASA Texas Columbia Shuttle Crash in 2003 and so many more. She was presented a MetLife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Award by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging for her dedication to the North Central Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Red Cross National Headquarters in 2005, she is one of only twenty-six individuals to receive the award from a field of 200 national nominees. She taught Red Cross weather awareness module titled Weather or Not to more than 3,000 first grade students in the 16 area counties. Betty has truly been a blessing in the lives of countless people through her nursing and volunteer work.
Betty started her membership with the Wichita County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Alumni Association in 2010, where she gave her knowledge and spirit of giving. She was always at the ready to assist anyway she could with fund raising, support and her infinite wisdom.
Betty received the Spirit of Texoma Award in 2013.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Charles Harvey, her five children, Michael Harvey, Karen Harvey Barr, Steve Harvey (Judi), LeAnn Harvey Eubank (Joe) and Cindi Harvey Eubank, her ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
