In about 1868, the 23-year old married 33-year old wealthy businessman, Owen C. Farrar, who had a thriving General Mercantile Store and other properties in Tarboro, Edgecombe Co, NC.
The union would produced two daughters: Mollie L. (1869-1870), and Annie (1872). Sadly, Ellen died soon after the birth of their 2nd child, at the young age of 26.
Her widowed husband continued to raise their only surviving daughter, until he remarried soon after her death to Isabelle Rebecca "Bell" Farrar, who delivered him 6 more children, although only 3 survived infancy.
Her husband passed in 1891 at age 56. He is buried in Greenwood next to both his wives and children.
