Pakistani Statesman. He served as the 12th President of Pakistan from September 9, 2013 to September 9, 2018. He graduated from both Karachi University and the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi, where he earned a MBA degree in 1965. In 1968, he joined the Pakistan Muslim League. He rose up through the party ranks until 1993, when he joined the PML-N, led by Nawaz Sharif. In 1999, he was appointed governor of the Sindh region by Nawaz Sharif, but his tenure was cut short by a military coup later that year, that ousted the PML-N government. He remained out of the political scene until 2013, when he was elected president of Pakistan as the candidate for the PML-N. He served as president for the next five years before stepping down from office. He passed away after a battle with cancer.
