Obituary of Michael GEER MD
In Loving Celebration and Memory Of Michael R. Geer, M.D.
Dr. Michael Geer a noted cardiologist and hypertensive specialist departed this life on July 11, 2021 at his home. He was born on September 6, 1948 in Durham North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Hattie Geer, and brother, Major Geer Jr., M.D.

Dr. Geer graduated with honors from Hillside High School (Durham NC) in 1966. He graduated from Duke University in 1970 with a degree in electrical engineering. Influenced by his brother, he decided to pursue a medical career and graduated from Duke University Medical School in1975. He served in the US Army as a Lt. Colonel from 1976-1985 while completing his internship, residency, and a cardiology fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio TX.

He began his medical practice in Chattanooga TN as an invasive cardiologist. In 2006 he focused his practice on the management of hypertension and hyperlipidemia. He was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and the American Society of Hypertension. He was an Associate Professor at the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine, Chattanooga Branch and was nominated as Teacher of the Year on several occasions. He also was on the speakers' bureau for several major pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Geer was an outstanding musician where he played trumpet at Silverdale Baptist Church. An avid sports fan, he loved attending the University of Tennessee Vols football games with his friends. He also loved youth soccer and high school basketball. He liked to travel to Florida and other places to spend time with extended family. He especially liked spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Teresa, two sons, Sean of Los Angeles CA, and Michael II (Maggie) of Austin TX, granddaughters, Siobhan, Savannah, and Sunny of Austin, his brother, James (Glenda) of Newport News VA; Stepdaughters, Christie (Scott Woodfin) of Columbus OH, step-grandchildren, Garrett, Grant and Natalie of Columbus, Cindy (Scott Monroe) of Park City UT, step-grandchildren, Alyx and Evan of UT and a host of cousins across the country.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 11:00am to 1:00 pm at the Silverdale Baptist Church, 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN, 37421.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:30 pm.

In Lieu of flowers the family kindly ask that donations be made to the Silverdale Baptist Church, designated for Missions in Chattanooga, TN or to Hillside High School Alumni Association, NAAHS PO Box 51758, Durham, NC, 27717.
