I want to thank everyone who's joining us, in presence and in spirit, to celebrate my father's life. If there's one thing I know my dad would want, it would be just that – to celebrate our time together. My dad knew how to find joy in every moment, a joy that he was well known for and one that surrounds many of my childhood memories. I will never forget my first fishing trip on Lake Erie where together we caught a 10-pound walleye that made me an instant Master Angler and hometown hero at just five years old. He was my biggest cheerleader that day, and for many days to come. He cheered for me almost as hard as he does for his Buckeyes, and about as eagerly as we did during the 2002 National Championship.
Life without my dad seems unreal. He leaves too big an empty space to fill, and the pain is insurmountable. I can't imagine a path forward without him, but like he would have wanted me to, I will continue to seek that joy (and a Buckeye win would surely help).

Tommy-Boy, to say you are my father is an exaggerated understatement.
You are my role model – I always wanted to be just like you.
You are a comic – You put a smile on anyone's face. Especially mine.
You are talented – You created such beautiful memories.
You are my hero – There was never anything you couldn't do.
But above all, you are my very best friend – I will never forget the memories we made.
Dad taught me many things in life: Nothing comes before family, anyone can achieve anything, to give your best effort in everything you do, and if you're a Michigan fan you ain't shit. I'll forever carry out your legacy. Tell papa hello for us.
I love you old man,
Your middle boy.

My dad had many lovable qualities that set him apart from everyone else in my life, but the most unforgettable is his ability to make you laugh. It didn't matter if you were so mad you could punch somebody, or if you were on the verge of tears... he knew exactly where your funny bone was, and trust me, he was going to hit it. From the goofy ridiculous faces he was always making or his Chevy Chase impressions, he would get you to smile no matter what. He left me with fond memories of him being my basketball coach for 5 years, and starting a lacrosse team in the middle of Kentucky where no one had ever heard of the game. I have him to thank for my competitive nature. Whether we were running football routes in the backyard or playing Call-Of-Duty on the Xbox, it was down to the wire every time. His thoughtfulness went a long way, leaving notes and drawing us little pictures in our school lunches just to make us smile. I'm so thankful I answered his FaceTime call on his last day on this earth, words can't express how good it made me feel that he could call me whenever just to pass time. Every time we talked on the phone it was like I had seen him the night before. We never skipped a beat or had any awkward silences, just funny conversations and story telling about the monkey business in his younger days. It breaks my heart we're all here today celebrating his life in such a complicated time. I know he's smiling down at us right now thanking his lucky stars for such an amazing family who had his back through thick and thin. Love you pops, till we meet again...

-Your son, Luke
