Joe Leslie Woods, 59, of Richmond, died on Monday, July 12, 2021, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Joe was born on August 19, 1961, in Kansas City the son of David S. and Dolly Virginia (Hansen) Woods. He was united in marriage to Tami Dawn Minnick of Richmond on April 3, 1982; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: son, Aaron (Candace) Leathers of Richmond, one daughter Andrea Woods of Lawrence, KS, three grandchildren, Austin (Skylar) Leathers of Lexington, Brenden Leathers and Alexi Leathers, both of the home, great grandson, Samuel Leathers; sister, Kristy (Dennis) Kirk of Richmond; sister in law, Patricia Woods and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gayle David Woods and infant sister at birth.
Joe was reared and educated in Richmond. Joe worked as a union painter for 34 years for Switzer & Associates in Kansas City. He was a proud member of IUPAT Local Union 2012 District Council # 3 of Kansas City. Not only could he paint structures but was an artist as well.
Joe always enjoyed all sports and when he was younger enjoyed riding dirt bikes and four wheelers Joe was a youth coach for many sports including little league baseball, football, youth soccer, basketball, and volleyball. He especially enjoyed coaching his children's teams. Joe was a long-time member of the Richmond All Sports Club. Joe enjoyed helping and coaching at Camp Kinnard. He was a big KU basketball fan and loved going to games. Joe was everyone's friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the family's choice. They may be left or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main St.-P.O. Box 190 Richmond, M.O. 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery east of Orrick.
