Douglas was a manager in the Global Mobility tax practice at PWC, receiving his Bachelor's degree from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX. He was a mentor and a confidant to many people, both professionally and personally. He was outgoing and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Doug had a smile that would light up the room. He was a huge grilling fanatic and took pride in his well-equipped chef's apron. Doug's favorite season was football and he was a faithful fan of the Detroit Lions. He was a big movie buff and could even have a conversation using nothing but movie quotes. He loved everything Superman and has a vast DC comic collection. Doug is survived by his daughter: Kylee Bates of East Barnard, TX; his parents: Douglas Sr. and Anita Bates; sister: Christina Compton and husband Jimmy of Keller, TX; nephew: Zachary Compton; and niece: Zoe Compton; grandparents: Sue Veya of Rockwall, Shirley Cottrell of El Paso, TX, and Ronald Herman of Melvindale, MI; aunts: Deborah Trotter of Taylor, MI, and Tina Barclift of Lakeland, FL; uncles: John Bates and wife Cindy of Southgate, MI, and Russell Herman of Woodhaven, MI; and a host of many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather: Jack Bates; step-grandfather: William Cottrell, and aunt: Kim (Herman) Woods.
