Anne married (now divorced) Jim Henry in 1969. They had a special son, Jacob James (Jake) who resides at McCalls Chapel School in Ada, Oklahoma.
Jake was Anne's world. She supported and participated in Special Olympics over many years. She dedicated many summers volunteering at Camp Bennett in Honor Heights. She was also on the board at INCOR. In addition, Anne worked at McCoys residential home for boys and girls in Muskogee. For a few summers, she ran the concession stand at Alice Robertson School for the softball leagues as well as coaching her own girls team. Finally, she was a volunteer with CASA.
Anne started out working for the Muskogee Water Department and then became a police dispatcher. In 1985, Anne became a school bus driver before moving to dispatcher. She was then promoted to Director of Transportation where she spent 13 years. She received many awards including Top Director of Transportation for the state. Anne retired in 2010 after 25 years of service with the Muskogee Public School system.
Anne was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Muskogee. She loved her church and could usually be found at her beloved Rowsey Chapel for early service in the same seat each Sunday morning. She volunteered much of her time supporting the kids and the many wonderful programs offered to the community.
Anne was truly a character! She never met a stranger and was beloved by the many kids and adults she worked with throughout her life. She was funny, entertaining, and had a caring heart as big as the outdoors. You might have heard her driving her "boom box" school bus or taking kids into her "Buster the Bus" for training and books. She was known as "Ms. Henry" to several generations of school kids and impacted so many lives along the way.
Anne loved the outdoors and water, especially the times she and her son, Jake, stayed in cabins on the various state lakes. Her favorite trip ever was the beach at Gulf Shores in Alabama with all her crazy girlfriends.
Anne loved animals, especially her little pal, Freckles.
Muskogee will certainly miss Anne Henry.
Anne is survived by her son, Jacob James of Ada; her sister, Kathy Sheets of Williamsburg, VA; and her brother, Dr. Jack Sheets and wife Annie of McAlester, Oklahoma. In addition, Anne's nephew, John Michael Sheets and his wife Katy and their son, Sam of Oklahoma City; niece, Caroline Sheets of Oklahoma City; along with numerous cousins in Texas, Washington, and Oklahoma.
