Sarah was one of twin daughters born to Bernard and Frances (Walker) Sweeney. Bernard was born in Ireland about 1767 and was a British soldier sent to fight in the American War of Rebellion. After the War, he remained in the U.S. and fought for his new country against the old in the War of 1812. He died near Memphis, Tennessee, in 1814.
His wife Frances was the daughter of Alexander and Frances Ann (Scott) Walker, and was born around Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Sarah married John Gunn, younger brother of her twin sister Ursula Jane's husband James Gunn. Sarah and John had these children: Reuben Washington, married to Ellen Baird; Eaton W., who died in his teens; and Frances Wilmington who first married Franklin Brown and after his death William J. Woods.
Sarah and her twin Ursula are buried side-by-side in this cemetery, flanked by their husbands John and James, who founded the cemetery.
