John Wesley Lutes
March 11, 1944 – March 14, 2021

John Wesley Lutes, age 77, of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed from this life on Sunday, March 14th, 2021, in his home with his wife by his side. He was born on March 11th, 1944, in Alexandria, Louisiana.

John graduated from Pollock High School in 1962. He earned the honor of Eagle Scout on March 10th, 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1972 from Louisiana College. Beginning on May 31st, 1966, he proudly served his country in the Army Reserves until January 30th, 1972. During his service, he married his wife of 54 years on November 21st, 1966. He and his young family moved to Winnfield where he owned and operated Dixie Ready Mix Inc. for over 40 years. John sold his business and continued to work part-time for Builder's Supply while also enjoying special time with his wife, family, dogs, and enjoying his hobbies.

John was an active member at First Baptist Church Winnfield for over 50 years where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher to many age groups, from middle school boys to his current class, Spares & Pairs. He enjoyed being a member of the choir, playing handbells, and serving on many committees throughout the years. He was a faithful servant of the Lord who radiated God's love and embodied the fruits of the spirit.

John proudly followed in his father's footsteps as a member of the Free & Accepted Masons in Eastern Star Lodge. At Lodge No. 151 he served as Master in 1988, secretary for over 25 years, and was the current treasurer. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association and the Lions Club.

"Johnny," as many called him, enjoyed doing projects around the house, wood working, traveling, fishing, watching Jeopardy, and spending precious time with his wife and family. He completed countless triathlons and marathons, but his proudest athletic accomplishment was being an Iron Man. He formed many lifelong friendships along the way. His arms and his heart were always open to those in need. During his lifetime, he always had a pet by his side to care for and love. Bama, Kimmie, and Winnie will miss him dearly.

Johnny was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a genuine and kind-hearted true Southern gentleman. He went out of his way to make others feel welcome. He had a sweet, gentle, thoughtful, and loving spirit that made all who knew him, love him dearly. As a final act of love, John donated his body for the advancement of science.

Mr. Lutes was preceded in death by his father, Paul Eli Lutes, Sr., his mother Clara Sheets Lutes, his sister Mary Louise Harlan, and his brother Billy Gene Lutes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Joan Fogleman Lutes, his daughters Janice Kelly (John) of Trussville, AL and Janine McMillan (Trey) of Benton, LA, grandchildren Kate McMillan, Hannah Kelly, Claire McMillan, and Blake Kelly who lovingly called him "Daddy John", his brother, Paul Eli Lutes, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 17th, at First Baptist Church of Winnfield from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. Danny Keyes, Dr. Calvin Phelps, Rev. John Holland, and Dr. Jerry Pipes officiating.

Thank you to all of our friends, family, and neighbors who have supported us with prayer, love, and Biblical encouragement during this time. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Johnny is now healed and whole, worshiping with Jesus for all of eternity. Praise be to God!

Memorials in John's memory may be made to First Baptist Church Winnfield – Spares & Pairs Sunday School class, 201 E. Court Street, Winnfield, LA 71483.

After Johnny's final act of love and giving was complete, a private graveside memorial service was held at Colfax Cemetery on July 10, 2021.
