James Richard (Rich) Godfrey Jr. passed from this life on January 9, 2021. Born December 17, 1942 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Shirley P and James Richard (JR) Godfrey. Rich spent his early years there before entering the United States Air Force where he served 20 plus years. Upon retiring to Dallas, TX, Rich spent the remainder of his years as a mechanic for Mr. Battery and Tire before his health took a toll. Rich valued family, racing, karaoke and a bottle of Jim Beam above all else.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents, brother (Emory), and his grandson (JR Godfrey). Rich is survived by the Mother of his Children, Kay Minnick, his children, Cheryl (Richard), Cindy, Rick (Katie). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cenna (Jeff), Leslie (Robert), Coriann, Angel, Alex, Adrian, Christian and Christina as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
Rich was a storyteller with a vivid vocabulary. He was a mentor and confidante for his family, often giving good and honest advice. Rich never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He will be missed by everyone who had an opportunity to meet him.
