James Travis Melton, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the age of 64. The son of Frances Rattler (Melton/McFadridge) and Earnest Melton, he was born on September 14, 1956 in Oklahoma City. At an early age, James discovered that working brought him a great sense of accomplishment. He started his long term career at 11 years old, by helping his brothers and close friends run their paper route. He got his own route and began working as an Independent Contractor for the Daily Oklahoman in 1974 and retired in 2012. Not only did he enjoy working, but he enjoyed being a father to his two daughters Molly & Sydney. He taught them both the benefits of hard work, and working hard for the things you want. He also spent many years coaching Sydney and her close friends in softball. James had a nickname for everyone, and you knew he loved you if he gave you a hard time. He was sarcastic, funny, charismatic, and was always there to help whenever he could. James was an avid golfer, enjoyed buying and selling cars, and loved watching any NBA game that was on TV. He was a good friend, a hard worker, and lived life doing the things he enjoyed. He will be deeply missed each day. He was preceded in death by his: Father, Earnest Joel Melton; Mother, Frances Faye Rattler; Step-Father, Floyd Rattler; Brothers: JC Melton, HM "Porky" Melton, & Samuel "Sammy" Melton; Sisters: Shirley Williams & Wanda Belew; He leaves behind his loving family: Daughters: Molly and her husband Nathaniel Edwards, & Sydney and her husband Jacobo Meza; Brothers: Larry Melton, Willie Melton, Jerry Melton, & Joel Melton; Sister, Patricia Bowling; Grandchildren: Kennedy Edwards, Reagan Edwards, Madison Edwards, Enri Lee Meza & Jacobo James Meza; Close friends: Bob & Patty Farr, Barney & Paula Emmerton, & David Brotherton.
