Janice was 82 years old. She attended Young High School, and worked at Walmart for 20 years, and retired from there. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, mamaw, and great-mamaw who loved spending time with her family and traveling with them. She was also married for 56 years to David Franklin Bates, Jr., who proceeds her in death.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo Edwards Maples and Gladys Street Maples, her beloved sister Shirley Ann Mynatt, and her brother Eddie Maples.
She is survived by her daughters Kimberly Bates Haynes (Paris Dwayne Haynes) of Newton, NC, and Teresa Bates Bowman of Knoxville, TN. She leaves a granddaughter, Meghan Nicole Bowman (Zachary Coakley) of Knoxville, TN, and three grandsons, Spencer Dwayne Haynes (Emma Haynes) of Athens, GA, Zachary Andrew Haynes (Kelly Haynes) of Richmond, VA, and Blake Andrew Bowman of Knoxville, TN. She also leaves two great-granddaughters, Addisyn Lane Coakley and Rylie Reece Coakley, and a great-grandson, Tatum Dwayne Haynes of Athens, GA. She leaves behind other family members and friends who cherish her memory.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Broadway Chapel. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 with Rev. Dr. Alan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
