Phillip W. Cole, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away July 7, 2021 at home surrounded by loved ones. Born August 14, 1940 in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Phil married his devoted wife Dianne nearly 60 years ago. He is survived by wife Dianne, son Tom Cole (Sharon) of Fruita, CO, daughters Julie Cole Mecum (Fred) and Jodi Cole of Indianapolis, IN, and 5 grandchildren: Jordan, Ross, Josie, Ella Rose and Arielle. Phil's passion for flying and exploring different countries led him to a lifetime in the airline industry. After graduating from East Coast Aero Tech, Phil worked for Rex Humbard, Voyager until its closure, and American Trans Air/Ambassadair for 27 years as a flight engineer. Although not a member of the military as many of his family were, Phil took pride in flying troops overseas for years.

Phil kept busy during his retirement by giving back to others. He was active in the Ben Davis Lions Club (Lion of the year 2009), and looked forward to flipping pancakes at quarterly breakfasts, distributing dictionaries to Wayne 3rd graders, and Camp Woodsmoke cleanups. Phil loved being outside and could be found on his lawnmower, in the garden, snow skiing, or chopping wood for his garage wood stove. Phil enjoyed sharing his passion for woodworking with others, most particularly his grandchildren, and hunting/fishing with his son and grandsons. Phil grew up in Massachusetts and always considered Massachusetts his home. He looked forward to returning for the annual family Thanksgiving gatherings.

Friends and family will gather for fellowship from 4:00 to 5:00pm on Saturday, July 10th, followed by a 5:00 Celebration of his life at Conkle Funeral Home in Speedway. Please bring/send your favorite memories of Phil to share. Phil will be laid to rest later in July at Pine Nook Cemetery just down the street from his family home in Deerfield, MA.

Thanks to all family, friends, and caregivers who contributed love and care during this past year who helped us all smile. Special thanks to nurse Jessica and Care Hospice.
