Death of Mr. Mann
W. W. Mann, the aged resident of Cairo, who was stricken with paralysis some ten days ago, while on his way from Cairo to this city, and was found lying prostrate in his wagon, while the horse was roaming about in a field north of the Dunkel property in West Lawn, departed this life yesterday afternoon, shortly after four o'clock, at the soldier's home hospital, at the age of 67 years.
As will be remembered, Mr. Mann's condition was discovered by several Grand Island College students. Observing the Grand Army button on Mr. Mann's coat, they thought perhaps the stricken man might be a member of the home and at once communicated with the institution. Mr. bowen, adjutant of the home, interested himself in the matter, at once recognized Mr. Mann as a veteran who had often called at the home, and had him placed in the Home hospital as the nearest and best place at which the proper attention could be given the unfortunate sufferer. Mr. Mann's relatives were at once notified and since that time one or more of them have been in constant attendance at his bedside. He never completely regained consciousness, and having never, since the privations and hardships he underwent as a prisoner during the war enjoyed good health, this the first stroke of paralysis, could not be overcome.
Mr. Mann has been a resident of Hall county for about thirty years, and was highly esteemed by a large number of friends, not only in his home vicinity, Cairo, but also in this city. He leaves a son, N. M. Mann, and four daughters, all grown and married, to mourn his loss. Mrs. Mann preceded her husband in death, about a year and a half ago.
The funeral will take place from the First Baptist church Thursday (tomorrow) afternoon at one o'clock internment being made in the Grand Army section of the Grand Island cemetery, the deceased having been a member of Lyon Post No. 11 of this city. // 1885 • Washington twp,Iowa
