OBITUARY - Jul 2021

Gladys Irene Besrud entered life on November 23, 1929, in Portland, ND. She was the youngest of 9 children born to Anton and Caroline Besrud. Gladys attended school through the 8th grade at Viking No. 10 School near Portland. After her 8th grade graduation, with her family unable to pay for a high school education, she left home and became a housekeeper for families in the area. Gladys moved to Fargo, ND, at the end of the war and a brother-in-law introduced her to Emmanuel Dahlsad. Gladys and Emmanuel were married on November 20, 1948, in Moorhead, MN, and they farmed near Georgetown, MN, until retirement in 1987.

Gladys loved watching plants grow and always had big vegetable and flower gardens. She loved apple trees. She loved baking and was continually trying new recipes. Her family and friends were very important to her, and she always enjoyed socializing and having coffee. She was an active member of North Buffalo Lutheran Church. Emmanuel and Gladys square danced; enjoyed lake country; and spent many wonderful winters in Apache Junction Arizona making new friends. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1987 and lived in their Moorhead home until Emmanuel's passing in 2013. Gladys then moved to Linden Tree at Eventide. She passed away at the age of 91 on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Lilac Homes Memory Care in Dilworth, MN, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Marie (Tom) Hallett; grandchildren, Jeremy Hallett (partner-Abby Reddy), Ryan (Catherine) Hallett; great-grandchildren, Emily, Madelyn, and Benjamin. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all her siblings.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at North Buffalo Lutheran Church, Kragnes Township, MN. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A livestream of the service will be available on her webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found.
