Dorothy "Dot" Chamblee Edwards, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2021.
Dot was a native of Raleigh and grew up in the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood, where she played softball in the streets. She was the daughter of Robert Melville Chamblee and Jessie Kirkland Chamblee. Dot graduated from Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh and studied at Woman's College (now UNCG) before honing her skills at King's Business College and going to work for Durham Life Insurance Company.
Dot married James "Jimmy" Paul Edwards in December 1947 and the couple founded Inland Construction Company in 1952.
Dot is survived by three children, Susan Edwards, Debbie Edwards and Jim Edwards, Jr. (Sally); grandson, James Bailey (Rachel) and great-grandsons Mack and August Bailey. Dot was predeceased by her husband and her sisters, Mary Wilkinson and Libby Booth.
