Leonard (Speed) Hadzor, 91, passed away peacefully from a short illness with his family at his side on September 14, 2011.
Speed was born in Sheridan, Montana on September 25, 1919 to Viola and James Hadzor. The family moved to Butte, Montana, where Speed graduated high school and enlisted in the Army in 1944, serving four years in the South Pacific during World War II.
Immediately following his discharge from the Army, he went to work for Underwood Business Machines in Butte. Speed married Ruth McDonald on June 10, 1951. Together they raised six children, Bill, Lynn, Bob, Mary Ann, Mark and Tom. Speed was transferred to Boise, Idaho, with Underwood in 1958, and he later worked for Ada County District Court, retiring in 1989.
He was a devoted family man and enjoyed frequent get-togethers with family and friends. After retiring, he also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Ruth and their friends, Jerry and Terry Veasy.
Speed loved to fish, hunt and ski both in Montana and Idaho. There was not a mountain or stream he did not know. He was fortunate to have recently watched the Kokanee spawn one last time on the South Fork of the Boise River.
His family and friends gathered this summer to celebrate 60 years of marriage, and a life well lived and loved.
Speed was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Bill (Lynne), Bob (Lat), Mark, Tom (Jennifer); daughters, Lynn Kimmel (Jim) and Mary Ann Murdoch (Bruce); sister, Bess Rule; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of XL Hospice for the loving attention they provided Speed during his short illness.
Please join us for a Celebration of Speed's Life on September 30th at Plantation Country Club from 4pm - 6pm 6515 West State Street Boise, ID 83714.
Remembrances to your favorite charity in Speed's name would be greatly appreciated.
