JOSEPH FLETCHER STRANGE SR. was the son of Jeremiah Fletcher Strange and Mrs. Mary (Henderson) Strange.

He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Mildred "Millie" (Tucker) Strange whom he married on May 24, 1876 in Harrison County, Texas.

To their union, four children were born, namely Joseph Fletcher Strange Jr., Paul Quincy Strange, James Tucker Strange and Mary Elizabeth Strange.

Two of their sons preceded him in death.

"Death Of Old Resident Of County ---
Mr. J.F. Strange, an old and respected citizen of the Elysian Fields community, died February 7, and he was buried at the old town cemetery on February 8. Mr. Strange was 78 years of age and was only sick a few days. He was born in Athens, Tennessee, and come to this county just after the Civil War. He was in the Confederate Army during the entire war. He is survived by his wife; and one son, James; and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cooke."
