Professional Hockey Player, Coach. For sixteen-seasons (1963 to 1979), he played at the defenseman position in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Oakland Seals, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals. He began his career with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League during the 1960-1961 season, before being promoted to the NHL with Montreal during the 1963-1964 season. During the course of his career, Watson often displayed his pugnacious nature which earned him the nickname "Bugsy." In 1965, he experienced a Stanley Cup championship with the Canadiens. In 877 career regular season games, he compiled 17 goals and 135 assists. After retiring as a player, he served as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers for part of the 1980-1981 season. After retiring from hockey, he operated a pizzeria in Virginia.
