Mrs. Elizabeth Poole Carr, 93, died July 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Mrs. Carr was born in Matthews, GA. She attended Tift College and the University of Georgia before receiving her undergraduate degree from Augusta College. She earned her master's degree in Adult Education from Georgia Southern College. Mrs. Carr was highly respected and received numerous awards over the course of her career in education - as a librarian, a schoolteacher, and an education specialist with the Army Signal School at Ft. Gordon. Throughout her life, her strong Christian faith was important to her. She was actively involved in teaching and serving in a wide variety of church activities. Mrs. Carr was a member of Warren Baptist Church. In addition to her faith, spending time with her family was one of her greatest joys. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Carr; her parents, D. Arthur and Jennie Beasley Poole; her sisters, Florine Moses, Dot Jellison, Lillian Arnold, Margaret Rice, Clara Preston, and Allene Brown; and her great grandson, Samuel Woodall. She is survived by her daughters Joanne Holton (Ike) of Martinez, Judy Allen (Craig) of Watkinsville, Janet Peed (Gates) of Statesboro, and Jean (John) Chamblee of Peachtree City; grandchildren, Simon Peed, Harrison Peed, Abigail Peed White, Clate Peed, Stephanie Allen Woodall, Nick Allen, Jarrod Chamblee, and Jennifer Chamblee; and great-grandchildren, Reagan Peed, Rhett Peed, Elizabeth (Ellie) Woodall, and Jack Woodall. Additional survivors include many dear nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the Chapel at Warren Baptist Church. Burial followed in Westover Memorial Park. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
