Civil War Confederate Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 1st Alabama Infantry regiment. He was captured at Island #10 and shuttled through ten POW camps before his release in 1865. Colonel Steedman also commanded the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment and the left wing of the Confederate defenses during the 48 day siege at Port Hudson, Louisiana.
