Jared is survived by his parents, Michael and Phyllis Stewart; sister, Megan Stewart; grandmother, Betty J. Piper; loving aunts, uncles & cousins: LuAnn and Tim Foor (Tara & Tansy); Debbie Piper (Brittany & Ryne Pacheco); Susan & Reggie Yang (Alicia & Jamie); Steven and Maxine Stewart (Brandon, Chrissy & Michael); and Jared's deeply loved best friend, Jason Phillips. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Louis P. and Georgia Ann Stewart; grandfather, Bernard Edwin Piper; and Uncle Russell Edwin Piper.
Jared volunteered with WARM – Westerville Area Resource Ministry. He worked at T.J. Maxx on Polaris Parkway, Columbus, Ohio. He was a former member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.
Jared lived his joyful boyhood years from 1989-1999 at our home in Reynoldsburg, Ohio until the family moved to Westerville, Ohio. He enjoyed attending Blue Jacket Hockey games and OSU basketball with Jason. They enjoyed visiting art museums and historical sites together. Learning and exploring was enjoyable with a good friend. Jared was an avid reader, writer, video and board game player.
Jared was a graduate of Westerville North High School and a member of the WNHS concert band. He then attended Bowling Green State University majoring in film studies.
Jared was very quick witted with great observational humor. He could laugh, smile and make us laugh at what we may have never contemplated without him. Some of his proudest moments were when Jared would find lost dogs in the neighborhood and make sure that they made it home safely. Jared's gentle kindness allowed the scared dogs to trust that he was going to help them. Jared was a perfect therapist and trainer to our family dogs and the foster dogs we brought into the home. He loved to teach a dog a new trick!
Our family would like to thank the many people who gave their time and patience to help Jared become more comfortable. We also are deeply grateful to the Affordable Care Act for providing the treatment and doctors that he would not have had without that help. Mental illness treatment is not given the attention it requires.
A Celebration of Jared's life will be held at 875 Helenhurst Court, Westerville, Ohio 43081 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Please bring a note of a loving memory of Jared for his remembrance box, if you have one. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to: FriendsOfTheShelter.org to help save the lives of sick or injured dogs that Jared loved so much. Thank you.
