Anacortes - Robert Dale Childers lost his battle with lung cancer on July 1, 2021. He was born in Parsons, Kansas on September 23, 1948; the son of Orvan and Margaret Childers. He joined brothers: Orvan L. and Fred and sister, Teresa was born three years later. He moved around a lot as a child, as his dad was in the Air Force. The family settled in Mascoutah, ILL where Bob graduated from High School there in 1966. He then attended the Southern Illinois University taking a course in agriculture. He taught auto mechanics at a tech school, before joining the Navy in 1970.

Bob was then deployed to VA 196 Station at Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, WA. Bob met the love of his life, Suzanne Steen in 1974 and they married in July 1975, spending 45 years together. Two sons were born to them.

Upon his honorable discharge and transfer to Naval Reserve, Bob procured employment with the City of Anacortes in 1977, starting off as a member of their Street Crew and then working for the City's Water Treatment Plant in Mount Vernon; and for the most part of his career in their Waste Water Treatment Plant, until his retirement in 2017. He also was an EMT during the years he was a Naval Reservist and while working for the City.

The pride of his life, aside from his wife, were his sons: Kevin Robert, born in 1981 and Sean Timothy in 1984. Bob loved the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, hunting and fishing. He was an extremely loving and giving person. Everyone was part of his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother Fred; sister-in-law, Judy; and in-laws: Arthur and Orva Steen. He is survived by his loving wife: Suzanne; sons: Kevin and Sean; siblings: Teresa (Michael Lovette) and Pastor Orvan "Bud" (Pam) Childers; his grandchildren: Hailey & Eva Smith and Savannah Childers, their mother, Catherine and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Bob will be laid to rest at Grand View Cemetery with Military Honors, 11:30 a.m. Friday July 9, 2021; followed by a Memorial Service at Evans Funeral Chapel which will be livestreamed at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Humane Society.
