Shirley Bailey

August 17, 1943 - July 5, 2021

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, SC – Shirley Bailey, 77, of Pawley's Island, SC, formerly of Princeton, died Monday, July 5, 2021. Born August 17, 1943 in Cabin Creek, she was the daughter of the late Henry Hodge and Sylvia Perry Hodge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob L. Bailey; and siblings, Oliver Ray Hodge, Benjamin Hodge and Kermit Hodge.

As a teenager, Mrs. Bailey was a member of the singing group, "The Rappettes" and won a singing contest at the WV state capital. She later moved to Winfield and was valedictorian of her class.

Shirley and her husband, Bob, bowled in several leagues over the years making many friends. She enjoyed baseball, especially the Princeton Rays, and loved going to the beach, hanging out with family, playing Rook with her children and grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, sitting for hours to complete a jigsaw puzzle, and watching the "old game shows." She loved serving at Landmark Church of God in Princeton where she sang in the choir.

It seems fitting that she passed on July 4th weekend. July 4th was always family reunion weekend. She loved seeing everyone, singing hymns, participating and watching the family talent shows, and taking baths in Spring Creek.

Survivors include three sons, Bruce Bailey and wife Betsy, Steve Bailey and wife Celeste and Brandon Bailey and wife Colleen; sister, Freda Hudnall; brother, Larry Hodge; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastor Scott Hodge officiating. Friends attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
