Known as "Bill" to family and friends, Mr. Chakan was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Sharon, a son of William G. Chakan Sr. and Thelma Wharry Chakan. He had just celebrated his 52nd birthday.
Bill graduated from Hickory Senior High School in 1972. He worked at the Sharon Herald newspaper and at Watson Cab Co. as well as Phil's Dependable taxi, both Sharon, prior to moving to Las Vegas. Bill lived in Las Vegas for more than 10 years and while there worked for Worldwide Securities. He moved back to Hermitage five years ago.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William George Chakan Sr.
He is survived by; his motherk Thelma Wharry Chakan, Hermitage; his sister, Susanne Chakan-Gilbert; and brother-in-law, Dr. Gary M. Gilbert, New York City; and Sue Stiver, Sharon, his companion of 18 years with whom he lived.
Bill had a sharp wit, a joyous personality and was a lover of animals.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
