Susan Craig, 72 of Independence, MO passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospice Care on October 29, 2020 after a short illness. Susan proudly served US Veterans for nearly 30 years as an operating room nurse at the Kansas City Veteran's Administration Hospital. She was a 1966 graduate of Atlantic High School (Iowa) and received nurse's training and degrees from Broadlawns Nursing School (Des Moines, IA) and Webster University (Kansas City, MO). She was a passionate and dedicated health care worker and loved everything about nursing and the medical field. She was also an exceptional potter. Susan loved throwing clay on the wheel and sharing her hobby and wares with her family and friends. Susan was also proud to have called Chicago, Atlantic, Omaha and Kansas City all as her homes. She also loved her dogs and spending time with family and friends.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Kevin Hitpas and Frances Hitpas Steplock. She is survived by her son (Russ Pieken of Overland Park, KS), grandchildren (Joseph and Norah Pieken of Overland Park, KS) and sister (Fran Keller of Richmond, VA).

A private funeral mass will take place at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Graveside services following at the Atlantic Cemetery where she will be laid to rest near her parents.
