Thomas J. Wagner, of Liberty Township, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the age of 77. He was born Tuesday, March 7, 1944 in Covington, Kentucky to Ferdinand and Thelma (nee Schreiber) Wagner.
Tom grew up in Dayton & Bellevue, Kentucky where he attended Sacred Heart grade school. Tom was a proud graduate of St. Xavier High School, he earned a Bachelor's degree from Thomas More College, and did graduate work at the Universities of Minnesota and Buffalo.
Tom married his sweetheart, Virginia Watt on November 26, 1966 at St. Henry in Elsmere, Kentucky. Together, Tom and Ginny built a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love. With a brilliant mind, Tom started out as a Chemistry professor where he enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge at the University of Cincinnati, Raymond Walters College. He later became an environmental consultant at Pedco, PEI, SAIC and eventually retired from the EPA.
With a heart of gold and his booming laugh, he enjoyed spending time with others creating memories. Tom was a Pee Wee Football coach for the Deer Park Cobras. He loved coaching and mentoring those young boys. Family was his priority, so Tom and Ginny spent many years watching their kids do what they loved. But once empty-nesters, Tom blocked off every Friday night as "date night" with Ginny that was almost always spent at Red Lobster. Whether he was fishing, golfing or visiting St. Martin (especially in his Hawaiian shirts), Tom was happy, but add his grandchildren to the mix and Tom was as happy as a human could be.
Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, Ferdinand and Thelma Wagner; his sister, Barbara Ann Wagner, his brother, Fred Wagner; and his son, Jeff Wagner.
Tom is survived by: his loving wife of almost 55 years, Ginny (nee Watt) Wagner; children, Tim (Linda) Wagner, Steve (Heather) Wagner, Cindy (Keith) Bricking, Tina (Joe) Swary; daughter-in-law, Dawn Wagner; grandchildren, Kara (Chad) Blomgren, Megan, Jordyn, Sydney, Katie, Emily, & Hannah Wagner, Maliah, Parker, Reagan, & Braden Bricking, Will & Brooklyn Swary; brother, Lou (Carol Ann) Wagner; sister-in-law, Joann Wagner; and many loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church, 5720 Hamilton Mason Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45011.
The family would like to thank our many angels on earth who were instrumental in Tom's care, especially Drs. Ouellette, Marinella & Camacho, Nurse Kelli and everyone at Hospice as well as anyone who was on his care team over the past 8 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to: Hospice of Dayton or The Tom Wagner Family '62, '85, '86, '89 Scholarship Fund at St. Xavier High School.
