Obituary for Billie Joyce Newton
Billie Mikel Newton, age 89, went to be with God on January 4, 2020. Known as Billie, B.J., Mama and Grandy, she is survived by four children, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Born Billie Joyce Mikel in Forney in 1930, she graduated from Clarksville High School, where she was a cheerleader and elected football sweetheart in 1947. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Paris Junior College where she participated as a cheerleader and in the campus newspaper, The Bat. After college she moved to Dallas working for Southwestern Bell , Southland Life and Employers Mutual of Wausau where she met her first husband Rubin Klein. During the Korean conflict she worked in Washington D.C. and at Donaldson Airforce Base in Greenville, S.C. while her husband Rubin served in the U.S. Air Force. She took a break from working outside the house in 1955 to raise her four children – Patrick, James, Diane and Sandy – before returning to work in 1968 at Choristers Guild where she served as Executive Secretary for thirty five years. In 1974 she married Bill Newton who passed away in 2008. Known as a proud and elegant Texas lady she was not only active in her church and sorority Beta Sigma Phi, but also known for the many dinner parties, luncheons and other events she graciously hosted. She will always be remembered as a caring mother and grandmother.
