James "Garthel" Haynes, 89, of Paris died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McEvoy Funeral Home, with Eric Kelleher of Bridge of Hope Church officiating.

Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Parsons.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Haynes was born March 6, 1932, in Parsons. He was the son of the late Glennie Washington Haynes and Vannie Lee Taylor Haynes, and his stepmother, the late Aggie Britt Haynes.

He married Jessie Mae Smith Haynes on April 29, 1950, and she survives in Paris.

Along with his wife, Haynes is survived by two daughters, Vaynell (Michael Hollowell) Charlton and Linda (Dalton) Patterson, both of Paris; four grandchildren: Chris Renfroe, Lee Ann Ellis, Brook Charlton and John Charlton; and five great-grandchildren: Graci Ellis, Cale Ellis, Malea Renfroe, Cadance Charlton and Callie Charlton.

In addition to his parents and stepmother, Haynes was preceded in death by a son, Wally Haynes; a sister, Annie Lou Haynes, who died in infancy; and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Renfroe and Alissa Renfroe.

Haynes was a long haul truck driver with over two million accident free miles. He also logged and ran a sawmill for a number of years. He was a very avid coon hunter and a Christian by faith.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Parsons.
